Today I interviewed my French teacher, Mrs. Docarmo. Mrs. Docarmo has suffered from migraines over the past years. When asked how frequent she gets migraines she responded that recently she has been lucky by not getting any but before she would get major migraines about three or four times a month. Mrs. Docarmo stated that while getting a migraine she would experience flashing lights and was unable to see clearly. In order for her pain to decrease she would go to a dark room. Her migraines have been very severe and was even taken out of work. She has ended up in the hospital due to migraines. I then asked what medications she uses to relieve her pain. Mrs. Docarmo said that she prefers to not take any medications but if the pain is really strong she takes Motrin or Aleve. She also stated that consuming pain medications caused her to feel dizzy and nauseous so she tries to avoid them. I also asked if she has used other methods besides pills to relieve her pain. She said that she has heard of natural alternatives such as acupuncture but has never tried it because she thought it was painful. Even though Mrs. Docarmo has never tried any natural alternatives she said she might try it in the future. She tries to prevent migraines by avoiding certain foods such as meat or anything that is greasy. She now prefers to cook at home than eating out. Mrs. Docarmo stated, "I think the reason I don't have a lot of migraines is because I doubled up on my exercise. I really do think that walking and being active has helped tremendously." Mrs. Docarmo does not like to consume pills so she tries exercising frequently to prevent getting migraines.
